We brought our boys to the June 27th baseball game against the New Britain Rockcats. The NH Fisher Cats often have promotions for the first 1,000 or more fans through the gates. Friday night’s game was the Jacoby Ellsbury bobblehead giveaway and since that is our eight year old son’s favorite player, he was very excited to go. A severe thunderstorm came through just before the game, but stopped just in time and everything started as scheduled. Because of the rain we were not able to bring our boys to Bugaboo Creek Kids Area, formerly Fungo’s Funland. We did see Fungo and Slider however while we were waiting for the rain to stop. Our boys had their picture taken with the team mascots.
Once the game was underway the fun kicked into high gear. Between every half inning the NH Fisher Cats would give away tickets, gift certificates, balls, tee shirts and even hot dogs, or they had activities for children and adults on the field like a sack race, running the bases with Slider and Fungo, bungee basketball and sumo wrestling. They also had a wide variety of food available to suit even the finickiest kids. The atmosphere was great and the kids love cheering on their home team. Watching our younger son, who is three years old, dancing and stomping to the music or cheering on the players was fun to watch. We were concerned how long the game would keep his attention.
We knew it would be a late night, so we brought a stroller because they have a place where you can purchase seats near open areas for strollers. It worked out perfectly in case he fell asleep. Everyone had fun, especially the kids who kept talking about the game on the drive home and did not fall asleep until we were about a half hour into the ride. We will be going again in July!
