My family and I have been members of The Works Health & Fitness Center for many years. About a year ago, they finished building a major addition. They went from a place where you could bring your kids to a full fledged family hang out.
Jacob, my eight year old, and I go every afternoon after school to spend time together and work out. On Mondays he takes tennis lessons and on Fridays he has swimming lessons. On other days, he can go to supervised swim or gym, or work out at FitSpot – a fun, interactive fitness room for kids age 8 – 14. This room includes Dance, Dance, Revolution, Video Gamebikes and Hoist Strength equipment. Parents can sign in their children while they go and workout. All of this is included with membership.
Their indoor pool is amazing. Jacob loves the water slide and Lucas, my four year old, enjoys splashing in the shallow end, which declines into deeper water – like a beach except no sand.
I enjoy the indoor running track and all of the different cardio equipment. They also have over a hundred group exercise classes to choose from each week. I am hoping to try Tai Chi and Strength Works classes soon.
They have a lounge area, which overlooks the racquetball courts. Jacob and I hang out there on Wednesdays to complete his homework and eat a late lunch before he has to go to baseball practice. We also try to get in a quick swim.
On rainy days and during the winter, the four of us spend hours at the fitness center. It is a great way to spend the day with the family, exercise and have fun!
